Exact years, months, and days from a date of birth — for horoscope and dasha discussions.

Exact age

Why exact age shows up in astrology conversations

A daily horoscope is tagged to a sign. A serious reading is tagged to a person at a moment in life. “I am thirty-six” and “I am thirty-six years, three months, and twenty-one days” are not the same input when someone is counting remaining dasha, an annual solar return, or whether you have crossed a particular year-lord threshold. Forms also ask age in completed years; priests and astrologers often want the finer remainder.

This calculator does not cast a kundli. It answers the prior question: how much calendar time has actually passed since the birth date you typed. Bring time of birth and place to the kundli tools or to a consultation if you need lagna and dasha, not only elapsed age.

How the difference is counted

Dates are read as local calendar days (year, month, day), not as UTC timestamps, so a birthday does not slip by a day because of timezone. Years, months, and days are borrowed the way a person would count on a wall calendar: if the as-of day-of-month is earlier than the birth day, we borrow the previous month’s length; if the month then goes negative, we borrow a year. Total days lived is the whole-day gap between those two calendar dates. Next birthday is the next anniversary on or after the as-of date (28 February when 29 February does not exist that year).

FAQ

Why would an astrology site care about exact age?+

Horoscope copy and dasha summaries often assume you know how old you are in years, months, and days — not a rounded birthday cake number. Vimshottari remaining, annual charts, and “which year of life is this” questions all start from a precise elapsed age. This page does the calendar arithmetic so the chart conversation can start on the right year.

Does this use the time of birth?+

No. It is a date-to-date calendar difference. Lagna, dasha start, and “day vs night birth” still need a time and a place. Bring those to a kundli or a consultation.

What if I was born on 29 February?+

In a non-leap as-of year, the next birthday is treated as 28 February. Age in years/months/days still uses ordinary month lengths, including February 29 in leap years you have already lived through.

Can I check age on a past or future date?+

Yes. Leave “as of” blank to use today, or pick any calendar date on or after the birth date — a wedding day, a dasha start, or the day you are filling a form.
